Our decision: No keepers selected.
When selecting genetics to grow for years at a scale of hundreds of pounds, our cultivation criteria are very particular. Not being selected as a keeper doesn’t mean the flower can’t be enjoyed—it means the plant wasn’t the right fit for ongoing production.
Most phenotypes showed:
- Slow growth during the vegetative stage
- Flower structure that fell short of our cultivation criteria
- Lower yields than we wanted for production
One phenotype also developed male pollen sacs during flowering, raising a stability concern. This finding applied to that individual plant. After evaluating the group, we decided not to retain any of these phenotypes for future production.
Fruit Loops: An indica-leaning hybrid associated with sweet blueberry and grapefruit aromas, fruity flavor, and a relaxing body feel.
LA Kush Cake: An indica-dominant Wedding Cake × Kush Mints cross with a vanilla nose, earthy peppermint flavor, and commonly reported relaxing, euphoric effects.
Z Face: A Zkittlez × Face Off OG hybrid combining fruit-candy aromas with earthy pine and citrus, often described as an uplifting head effect followed by body relaxation.
How We Find a Keeper
Every seed is a possibility. A pheno hunt is how we discover which plants have the characteristics we want to grow again—and which ones become part of YAGA’s long-term lineup.
Same lineage. Different expressions.
A phenotype is the observable expression of a plant’s genetics in its environment. Plants from the same cross can differ in growth, structure, aroma, and the flower they produce.
That is why we evaluate each plant individually. A strain’s name tells us its lineage; the pheno hunt shows us how each seed plant actually performs.
What earns a place in the lineup?
Our selection considers both cultivation performance and the consumer’s experience. We look at the whole plant and the finished flower, with several characteristics guiding the decision.
From seed to selection
Finding a keeper takes a complete growing cycle, careful tracking, and a living copy of every potential selection.
Choose the genetics. Track every plant.
We begin by deciding which strain or cross we want to explore. Every seed plant receives its own label and number so we can follow its development without mixing it up with another.
Shared lineage does not make the plants identical. Each one needs its own record and evaluation.
Identify females. Preserve potential keepers.
When male and female plants become distinguishable, we remove the males from the flower-selection group. Male plants can be used for breeding, but they do not produce the female buds we are evaluating.
Before flowering, we take clones from the remaining female plants. Each clone carries the original plant’s identifying number, preserving a living copy of a potential keeper.
Flower the originals. Compare the results.
The original seed plants enter a flowering cycle of roughly nine weeks. Following them through flowering allows us to assess how each phenotype develops and what it produces.
Once the cycle is complete, we compare the individual plants against our selection criteria and evaluate the resulting flower.
Keep the selection. Retire the rest.
Because every clone is numbered, we can match each result to its living copy. Clones of the selected phenotypes are retained to move forward into production.
The other phenotypes are removed from our living plant stock. The selection determines which genetics we continue growing.

This is the work behind every phenotype we choose to keep at YAGA Farms. We consider how a plant performs throughout cultivation and the flower it ultimately delivers, keeping the consumer’s experience at the center of the decision.
About Our Pheno Hunt Flower
What is pheno hunt flower?
Pheno hunt flower comes from plants evaluated during phenotype selection. Plants from the same genetic cross can develop different aromas, growth patterns, and flower structures. At YAGA Farms, we evaluate these differences to decide which phenotypes to keep for ongoing cultivation.
Where is this flower grown?
Our pheno hunt plants are grown indoors in our nursery under carefully controlled conditions. Each plant receives close daily monitoring, premium cultivation inputs, and individual attention throughout the grow.
How limited are these indoor flower releases?
Our pheno hunts typically yield around a pound or less. Available strains rotate as new selections are released, but each offering is a one-time release. Once it sells out, it will not return.
Why weren’t these phenotypes selected as keepers?
Selecting genetics for years of ongoing production requires very specific cultivation characteristics. Growth rate, yield, plant structure, and stability all influence the decision. A phenotype can produce flower customers enjoy without meeting every requirement for our permanent lineup. See each strain’s description for its individual selection notes.
Do the COAs show the finished flower’s potency?
The provided COAs are pre-harvest reports from samples collected approximately 30 days before harvest. Their cannabinoid percentages describe those early samples and do not establish the potency of the finished flower.
Can I use discounts or account credits?
Pheno Hunt Collection purchases are excluded from sales, discount codes, and account credits because of the limited quantities and investment in each hunt.
What if this flower isn’t for me?
Pheno Hunt releases are for curious, adventurous buyers who enjoy exploring unique expressions of genetics that haven’t joined our permanent lineup. We provide videos and the most detailed descriptions we can so you can decide before ordering.
