MCT Oil and Perilla Seed: Just Two More Healthy Reasons Why YAGA Farms CBD Tinctures Give You What You Need!

At YAGA Farms, we pride ourselves on formulating the finest in cannabis products. Our CBD tinctures are a perfect example of our dedication to purity and quality. We start out with our hemp: it’s 100% percent organically grown, resulting in a final product free from all pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and rodenticides. There are no bacterial contaminants or toxins, nor do we adulterate the product with artificial flavors or colors. And we can prove it: just look at our laboratory certificate of analysis!

CBD Clinically Proven to Reduce Pain and Inflammation
You probably already know that CBD has been clinically proven to help relieve pain, act as an anti-inflammatory, combat nausea, and is even FDA-approved for treating seizures. Otherwise, you would not be here on our website. But, at YAGA Farms, we are constantly trying to give you, our valued customers, the best results.

Optimization: A New Formulation to Fight Oxidation and Inflammation
At YAGA Farms, we have always differentiated ourselves from the rest of the crowded CBD field by virtue of not only peerless quality, but innovative approaches to formulating our products so that they would continually be optimized for the consumer—in a way that would be noticeably better than any other competing product. So let’s look at what makes our new formulation so great!

You Down With MCT? Maybe You Should Be!
MCT stands for medium-chain triglycerides, and refers to triglycerides having a 6-12-carbon chain, usually in liquid oil form. These fats, usually known as caprylic, capric, caproic, and lauric acids, are thought to help with satiety (feeling full) if taken as a couple of spoonfuls of MCT oil at breakfast or lunch. Some people will put them in their coffee, as the product is tasteless. The net effect is that taking MCT oil prevents cravings for high-calorie foods later on, so it is thought to be helpful for dieters. MCTs provide quick energy because they are metabolized directly from the gut to the liver via the portal vein. Although MCTs are saturated fats, they are generally thought to be heart healthy.

Perilla Seed Oil: What Is It?
Just a few short years ago, the perilla plant was mainly known for its use in Asian cooking—where it was mainly known as “shiso” or “wild basil.” However, after dietary supplementation with omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) was shown to improve blood pressure, lower triglycerides, prevent arrhythmias, sudden cardiac death, and generally reduce heart attack risk, it was observed that perilla seed contained 58% alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), a type of omega-3 fatty acid, an extremely high percentage compared to other plants (only chia and kiwi seeds ranked higher). This makes perilla seed oil a convenient substitute for those who do not wish to take fish oil as a source of omega-3 (either because they are vegans, or because they cannot tolerate the taste). Although fish oil contains the omega-3 fatty acids EPA (eicosapentanoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), our bodies can convert the ALA that perilla seed oil contains into DHA or EPA without difficulty.

Perilla Seed Oil and Omega-3 to Omega-6 Ratio
Perilla seed oil also contains omega-6 (linoleic acid) and omega-9 (oleic acid) fatty acids. The balance between omega-3, -6, and -9 fatty acids is crucial to normal functioning. Whereas a certain amount of omega-6 fatty acids is required in order to support normal clotting and immune system function, an overload of omega-6 will result in an overreactive immune system and an abnormal propensity for clotting, which could lead to heart attacks and strokes. Generations ago, our ancestors ate a diet where these two levels were roughly equal; today, it is estimated that omega-6 levels outpace omega-3 levels by a factor of roughly 20 to 1. Therefore, the fact that perilla seed oil is much richer in omega-3 as compared to omega-6 (and omega-9) is actually a good thing, as most of us have too much omega-6 in our diets.

Perilla Seed Oil: Antioxidant, Anti-Inflammatory, and Heart Health Benefits
The various properties of perilla seed oil and its various chemical components have been studied for well over 30 years in rigorous clinical settings. In terms of cardiovascular health, perilla seed oil appears to confer benefits by reducing clotting via increased blood levels of omega-3 fatty acids. Perilla seed oil has also been shown to lower levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as IL-1β and TNFα, and also to inhibit the release of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), enzymes which are correlated with the tissue damage that occurs in a wide variety of inflammatory diseases ranging from rheumatoid arthritis to heart attack to infection to cancer.

Perilla Seed Oil Has Shown Anticancer Properties
One type of omega-6 fatty acid which is a very close relative of the linoleic acid found in perilla seed oil, known as conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), was shown in multiple studies to be protective against developing breast cancer, whereas perilla seed oil itself seemed to be partially protective in rat models exposed to carcinogens.

Perilla and Polyphenols: Another Source of Antioxidant Protection
Rosmarinic acid, luteolin, apigenin, and caffeic acid are just a few of the myriad polyphenolic compounds found in perilla seed. Polyphenols are potent antioxidants and anti-inflammatories. In addition, these compounds (in the context of Perilla) have been shown to exhibit anti-allergic, neuroprotective, antibacterial, and even antidepressant effects.
